DIVING in CARRIACOU Simply with an unique flair
DIVING AROUND CARRIACOU
is being praised for years by visitors, the press, marine-biologists and travel agents for its pristine reefs
Unlike some other destinations there is no shore-diving, only a boatride of 10 to 15 minutes to the majority of divesites.
So there is no need to spend the whole day on a boat. Single-tank-dives with a relaxing lunch-break in
between is the rule unless business demands a different schedule.
The local reef- and wall-diving teems with forests of soft-corals and small critters;
10 ft. reef- or nurse-shark and giant green moray-eels are as common as turtle,
eagle- and stingrays, colourful reef-fishes and nudibranches. The U/W flora
& fauna is a rare gem in the Caribbean...plus: in September 2004 the tug-boat "Westsider"
and in September 2007 the tug-boat "Boris" were officially sunk as artificial reefs
providing new habitat for the local marine life, and great wreck-diving for
our guests.
After more than a decade of research, planning and consultations the Sandy
Island / Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area was launched on the 31st of July 2010. Its area of
787 hectares in the south-western part of Carriacou and its surrounding
waters is believed not only to be a very important marine eco-system to be
safe-guarded, but also being of cultural significance for its people. A fair number of our
dive-sites is located within SIOBMPA and you will be thrilled to discover its unique
bio-diversity!
Below is a selection of Carriacou's Top Dive-Sites: There is more diving to
explore
- for example on our day-trip that can be booked on an individual basis on
arrival.
